Located in the pristine Noonu Atoll, 187 kilometres north of Male, Velaa Private Island is an exceptional luxury retreat and the realization of a dream by owners Jiri and Radka Smejc to create a ‘beyond luxury’ exclusive boutique hideaway. After years of travelling extensively to the Maldives, the Smejcs sought to bring something new and special to the Maldives and this unique destination was developed to embody the very best of this unique archipelago.

Velaa Private Island has been designed and curated with privacy and comfort as the guiding principles while allowing the Indian Ocean to take center stage. Designed by Czech architect Petr Kolar, the overall design concept is contemporary, yet intimate.  Velaa shares its name and its home with generations of sea turtles that have inhabited the island, and the colours and patterns of the turtle shell make up subtle nuances in the design.  At one with nature, each of the 43 private villas and residences are built using local materials, and offer private pools and a generous outdoor space. 

Water activities on offer at Velaa include diving, snorkeling, water-skiing, kitesurfing, kayaking and sailing, as well as a semi-submarine expedition. The spa, in addition to featuring exclusive My Blend by Clarins products and treatments, also features the first ‘snow room’ in the Maldives as well as cloud-shaped reclining treatment pods which sway guests into a deep relaxation.  Velaa Private Island’s gym features world-class fitness equipment in addition to covered tennis and squash courts, a climbing wall and football pitch.  And golf enthusiasts can enjoy the only Troon Short Game Golf Academy in the Maldives, designed by professional golfer and two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal.
